In sentencing, Judge Kelly highlighted the contrast between what the parent-child bond should mean and the brutality with which it was destroyed.

“The bond between a parent and child is usually fundamental,” she said. “When that bond is severed in such a tragic way, the impact on the family and the entire community is immeasurable.”
